In the Kitchen
Fanatic for good food, excellent cook and lover of Mexican traditions, that's me!
I began to live my culinary dreams when I started my delicious career a professional cook more than ten years ago.
It was in the kitchen, where I won over my first fans, my parents. It was a cold wintery Sunday morning when I prepared them a dozen scrumptious "hot cakes" surrounded by a great variety of toppings – maple syrup and more maple syrup.
I was only six years old and I’m not going to forget how they looked at me. It was a mixture of profound gratitude and tenderness, and of course I knew that after that immense effort of love I would relax watching my favorite TV show with my brother.
It was also in the kitchen, where I tried to capture the hearts of my many teenage love interests. (Oh where are they now...just one!).One of them fell in love with a "delicious mango mousse.” Unfortunately, I did not know the meaning of “hydrate the gelatin”, and that “mousse” and the mousse turned out as airy as a cement block. Lucky for me, he was clueless in the finer points of French food!
The kitchen was also where I got my first job. After a motivational chat when I was studying in school, I listened to a well dressed man with an amazing CV who was talking about how you can get your dreams. He said that “the key to success is knocking on heavy doors”, so that’s just what I did. I went to the most famous restaurant in my neighborhood and knocked on the door! Amazingly the owners of the restaurant opened it immediately. The next day I was making tortillas!!!!
And you know what? Yes! It was there in the kitchen that I began my campaign to discover the well kept secrets of how to be a good cook.
I’m absolutely positive that anyone with their eyes open could find the same things that I found in the kitchen. It is there where you can come upon amazing combinations of flavors, charm your eyes, feel the variety of textures and listen to the unmistakable sound of oil when it’s ready to cook. It is in the kitchen that I find the perfect combination of the five senses and I open the heavy door to a world full of admiration, gratitude and love! The kitchen is my sanctuary and the act of cooking, my vocation.
